Parklets return to Frisco businesses on June 10, causing closure on Main Street

On Tuesday, June 10, parklets will return to businesses in downtown Frisco.

This year, over 35 parklets will be deployed along Main Street and several adjacent avenues. In 2020, Frisco first launched its parklet programming after constructing parklets using funding from the Colorado Department of Transportation’s revitalizing main street's grant program.

In order to place the parklets in front of businesses, Main Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, June 10. A detour will be in place to divert traffic from Main Street onto Granite and Galena streets.

Spruce Creek Road to close for improvement work for up to a month in June.

Spruce Creek Road will close for three to four weeks starting June 9 while the Town of Blue River conducts major road improvements, according to a news release. The project will address drainage, regrade and pave the road from Colorado Highway 9 to Gold Nugget Drive.

Crown Drive will only be open to local traffic during the construction. Residents, including short-term renters, in the area will be able to access their homes. Residents on the closed area of Spruce Creek Road, Louise Placer Road and Miners Court will access their homes via Gold Nugget Drive.

Blue River expects the work to be completed before the Fourth of July weekend, but it has plans to open the road July 3-7 if not.

Here’s what interior designers say will amplify your backyard patio.

Interior designer Elle Schwab said this has created a standing design trend where people look to create a seamless flow from the inside of their home to the outside. She said the feel can be accomplished through design elements and furnishing.

She points to a tip a mentor taught her involving the use of materials to create more of a tie between inside and out. For instance, she said, “If you have a stone fireplace on the inside, you can create a flow by incorporating that type of stone into your patio.” She said using similar railings for inside stairs and outside deck railings can also create a sense of cohesion.

Colorado author’s new book recalls the ‘truly remarkable’ story of how Leadville built an elaborate ice palace 129 years ago.

In her new book, “The 1896 Leadville Ice Palace,” Colorado author and historian Afton Rorvik describes how Leadville city leaders decided to build an elaborate ice palace, constructed it in a matter of weeks and invited the world to see it.

When the ice palace opened, it was 450-feet long and 320-feet wide with a skating rink at its center and coal-burning stoves for people to warm themselves by, Rorvik said. Although electricity had only come to Leadville in 1881, the palace featured hollow columns of ice with light bulbs suspended in them, she said.
