Dan’s law firm assists many clients who are facing the dilemma of how to pay the nursing home when their loved one needs care. In many cases this requires the sale of a home per Medicaid requirements. When this family reached out to Dan’s firm they had already been refused by multiple other attorneys who didn’t want to get involved since the home hadn’t yet been sold. They were told to sell it first.

The home isn’t fancy. It was in disrepair and housed 5 decades worth of their parent’s life within its walls. They were overwhelmed and at their wit’s end and the nursing home was demanding payment. They had no idea how to get the house sold. But I had many ideas.

Thankfully, they called Dan’s office and after engaging him to get their Mother approved for Medicaid I stepped in to assist with the house sale.

Within a week we were live in the MLS. In a market where there is a high demand by investors for homes in need of renovation we marketed the home and within the first two days received multiple cash offers at the full asking price. We sold, closed and put the sale proceeds into their Mom’s bank account within 17 days of entering the MLS.

No more do they have to worry about what to do with the house and all of it’s stuff. No more worrying about paying the utilities or taxes on it. No more worrying about the nursing home following through on threats to evict their mother. The family now has funds to pay what is required and Dan’s firm will complete the Medicaid approval process.

I sleep better at night knowing we helped someone today.

I met the sweetest couple at my friend Melanie’s BNB, Shady Oaks Farm, last August. They were traveling through NE Ohio trying to decide where they may like to settle as they planned to leave Florida and come live up north again to enjoy the seasons and be closer to family.
