There are a whole lot of new neighborhoods in Texas built right up against land that was rural long before the streets, fences and HOA signs showed up.

So if you moved into one of those subdivisions and heard gunshots this morning, there’s a pretty good chance nobody is robbing the Whataburger.

It’s September 1.

Dove season opened today, and for the first time, it opened on the same day across all three Texas dove zones.

That means a lot of folks who normally wake up to sprinklers, garage doors and school traffic are suddenly getting introduced to a very old Texas September tradition happening just beyond the backyard fence.

🎺🐾 The Brenham Cub Band is taking to the streets! 💚🤍

On Friday, August 7, the Cub Band will once again celebrate the start of the school year with a beloved community tradition—marching across Brenham!

The day will begin at 8:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, where the band will perform a short concert before heading downtown to march the traditional parade route. From there, the Cub Band will make several special stops throughout the community:

🎶 Downtown Courthouse
🏦 The new Citizens National Bank site
🏫 Alton Elementary
💚 Brenham ISD Central Office
🎶 Brenham Junior High
🍦 Blue Bell Creameries

We invite the community to come out, line the route and cheer on our talented Cub Band students as they make their way across town! 👏🎺

The Cub Band is already hard at work preparing for an exciting fall season and its upcoming contest production, The Mysteries of Stonehenge! 🗿🎶 They cannot wait to entertain our amazing Cub fans throughout the year!
