It's been slow-but-sure as we try to create affordable housing in our ever-growing city. The success needs to benefit as many people as possible. It needs to displace as few people as possible.

One of Metro Nashville's key affordable housing incentive tools is the MDHA PILOT program. This year it reached 10,000 units since 2016.

I'm happy to see this in the NY Times. I'm embarrased at how few I knew or have benn to. Nashville is a mecca for foodies!

With barbecue, haute Southern cooking, innovative Chinese cuisine and even a revelatory fried fish shop, the food scene in Music City as vibrant as it’s ever been.

Marsha Mauney & Nashville Roost and I have contributed $250 to this organization. We also contributed $250 to the Rogue Combat Club. I have brothers living in Asheville. Their houses are OK but their lives are not. My brother Mike Elliston is a member of Rogue and they have been receiving and distributing aid from the outset. These are both boots-on-the-ground organizations doing good. This is only the beginning. They are all going to need soooo much more.

A stylist said Garth Brooks sexually assaulted her. Brooks said the lawsuit comes after an extortion attempt and the allegations are “behavior I am incapable of.”

One hundred years ago today the longest-lived president in US history was born. More than living a century—of which only four years was he president—is the sterling character that exemplifies community-centric service to every level of mankind and the hallmark of substantive, inspiring, humble, walk-the-walk leadership.

As God will have His irony, the 100th birthday of an American apostle comes as we endure the unprecedented broad and deep devastation unleashed by Helene. In the hellscape of Mother Nature’s fury comes the light after the storm. We’re seeing neighbors serving and saving neighbors—even when they are in different states. Care and compassion can span a century and state lines. Jimmy Carter’s reach spanned oceans and continents.

From establishing the Carter Center, which has nurtured global democracy and human values, to helping build 4300 Habitat for Humanity homes to teaching Sunday School until he entered hospice care, it’s hard for me to determine which is the most consequential example of accomplishment. It may be that he got thrown the coolest 100th birthday party ever.

This marvelous tribute by Margaret Renkl encapsulates the stature of a man measured by character.

We can’t know how long Jimmy will be with us, but we can enjoy every hour that he’s around to be the beacon of our Better Angels. Happy Birthday, Mr. President.

You have made the most of a long life, Mr. President, serving in nearly every way imaginable as an example of moral seriousness and service to others.
