What does it cost to do shoddy looking repairs? If you can get a repair done at a huge discount, will you save money?
Often the answer seems obviously a "Yes". But come time you want to sell and you find a shoddy repair has now created the impression you have a large number of hidden shoddy repairs. And now the cost is made real by the lower priced offers you receive. So savings of $100 today may cost 10x when you sell.
A simply way to know if you're getting quality work, get references and check them before you sign a contract. Next, actually look at the repair. Does it look normal? Does it look like repairs you would be proud of or embarrassed by?
Here's a stucco brick-face that was allowed to deteriorate due to long standing water leaks. The repair was done by an incompetent contractor. Would you want to say "Thank you, here's my money"!?!?
If you were a buyer, how much discount would you expect to receive, for all the many incompetent repairs you haven't seen?
