Some people see flower pots.

Stacey sees living art and science 🌿✨

Our owner’s passion for horticulture started years ago working at her local Farm and Home (now Ace Hardware Weston) greenhouse in Wisconsin — proof that you never know where a summer job might take you.

Today, that passion has grown into an illustrious career in horticulture, arboriculture, and plant health care. Customers especially appreciate the knowledge she brings during property walk-throughs, helping homeowners understand the “mini ecosystems” within their landscapes and providing recommendations for long-term beauty, health, and sustainability.

While custom planters are only a small part of what Northeast Horticultural Services does, plants and container design remain one of Stacey’s greatest passions. At home, she spends countless hours tending to her own personal collection of plants and creating beautiful arrangements simply because she loves it — a connection to the place where it all began years ago in that small-town greenhouse. 🌸

What was your very first summer job — and did it shape where you are today? 🌱

🌳 What Should Homeowners Be Doing for Their Trees in June? 🌳

June is one of the most important months for tree care in Connecticut! As temperatures rise and summer storms roll in, now is the time to focus on:

✔️ Inspecting for dead or hazardous limbs
✔️ Monitoring for insect & disease activity
✔️ Deep watering during dry stretches
✔️ Pruning storm-damaged branches
✔️ Mulching properly (not volcano mulching!)
✔️ Checking for trees growing too close to structures or power lines
✔️ Scheduling preventative plant health care treatments

Healthy trees don’t just happen — they require seasonal attention and proactive care.
If your property has trees that “just don’t look right,” now is the perfect time for an assessment before summer stress sets in. 🌿

📞 Contact Northeast Horticultural Services for tree care, pruning, removals, plant health care, and full property services throughout Fairfield County.

Anyone can cut a branch.

Teaching why and how to prune correctly is what builds skilled arborists. 🌳✂️

At Northeast Horticultural Services, our owner Stacey Marcell took the time to work directly with employees in the field to train proper pruning techniques that protect tree health, structure, and safety for years to come.

That commitment to training is what sets professional tree care apart.

CT Native Plant Availability List: Updated and even MORE user-friendly! This native plant guide was created to assist municipalities, conservation organizations, homeowners, landscape architects, designers, and contractors with locating native plants for habitat restoration and wildlife enhancement.

The Connecticut Native Plant Availability List, by UConn Extension and CT DEEP Wildlife Division, identifies nurseries and garden centers that grow/sell native trees, shrubs, and perennials. Along with several nurseries that are new to the list, we have also added the ability for users to view the Availability List sorted by Nursery! View the list at s.uconn.edu/ctnativeavailability.

Planting the Next Generation of Connecticut’s Legacy Trees 🇺🇸🌳

What an incredible Arbor Day in Haddam last Friday!

We were honored to be part of a meaningful event hosted by the Connecticut Tree Protective Association in partnership with University of Connecticut College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources and UConn Extension at the UConn Middlesex County Extension Center.
Led by our owner and CT Tree Protective Association Arbor Day Conmittee Chair Stacey Marcell, this event brought together students, educators, and arborists to celebrate Connecticut’s iconic White Oak—rooted in history through the legacy of the Charter Oak.

✨ Highlights from the day:

• 5th grade Arbor Day poster contest winners recognized
• Students received White Oak saplings to plant at home
• Hands-on group tree planting with professional site prep
• Educational presentations from UConn experts

A special thank you to UConn Extension professor Thomas Worthley for sharing his expertise, and to our own arborist Dan Dalton for helping bring this planting to life.
