Some reviews just hit a little different…

“Jason Hignutt, and his crew did an outstanding job. His crew were all very hard workers and didn’t stop until the job was completed. I would recommend this company highly and use them again.”
— Jeanne T.

This right here 👆
This is what it’s all about.
Not shortcuts.
Not “good enough.”
Not packing up early.
Just showing up… working hard… and getting it done the right way.
Around here, that’s the expectation — not the exception.

My guys don’t stop when it’s convenient…

They stop when the job is finished.

And that matters.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just landscaping —
it’s someone’s home… someone’s investment… someone’s pride.
We’re grateful for customers like Jeanne who see that, respect it, and trust us with it. We look forward to seeing what she does with her garden bed!

Also — big shoutout to Joe Wicks Nursery for supplying a beautiful Magnolia that really brought this project together. Quality materials make all the difference 🌳

Walked into one of our vendor spots yesterday… and my man Adam hands me a miniature bucket of Easter candy for my kids 🍬🐣

Didn’t have to.
Didn’t ask.
Just remembered them.

Because for us — this has never just been about lawns, projects, or invoices.

It’s family ❤️
It’s relationships 🤝
It’s people actually paying attention.

Long days. Early mornings. Late nights.
Kids riding in the truck 🚛
Running up and down the Shop stairs. Sitting in the office while we finish “just one more thing.”

They see it all 👀

Lowes runs… gas stations… job sites…
“You got some helpers today?”
“Looks like you brought your supervisors with you.” 😄

And I just smile.

Because what people see as “cute”…
I see as the future being built in real time.

“How many times a day do I hear—
Daddy, what’s this for?
Is that irrigation? 💧
Are those our guys working?
They’re working hard…”

They’re watching.
They’re learning.
They’re connecting the dots 🧠

And just as important… they’re learning how to treat people.

Respect goes both ways 🤝
No one is above anyone.

Different backgrounds. Different cultures. Different skin tones …

But at the end of the day, we’re all just people trying to build a better life for our families.

That’s something I want them to understand early.

Because this isn’t just about teaching them work…
It’s about teaching them how to move through life the right way.

Truth is… they’re welcome to go chase whatever path they want in life.

But along the way — they’re going to learn this.

What it means to show up.
What it means to work.
What it means to treat people right.
What it means to build something that matters 💪

Because at the rate we’re growing… they’re not just watching anymore.

They’re learning.
They’re absorbing.
They’re next.

Next in the office.
Next in the trucks 🚛
Next at the table helping make decisions.
Next ones posting.

That’s what a family business really is.

Not something you clock in and out of…
Something you build, live, and pass down.

We don’t always know what our legacy will look like…

But every now and then, you get a moment where you can actually see it unfolding right in front of you.

Grateful for the people who understand and are ok when the crazy shows up to your property, to your buisness or to the nursery 🙏

Spring Clean Ups + Pruning + Turf & Bed Care — | Bethany Beach

It’s about getting everything reset the right way for the season ahead.

Beds overgrown.
Leaves built up.
Shrubs needing attention.
Lawns waking up… but not quite there yet. 🌱

The kind of things that creep up over winter…
and need to be handled before the season takes off.

That’s where we step in.

• 🍂 Full spring clean up — clearing leaves, debris, and resetting all bed areas
• ✂️ Crepe myrtle & ornamental pruning — done properly for structure, health, and growth
• 🌱 Plant Health Care (PHC Program — 5 Visits) to feed, protect, and strengthen your landscape all season long
• 🖤 Fresh mulch install to lock in moisture, suppress weeds, and give that clean finished look
• 🔁 Bi-weekly bed maintenance to keep everything clean, healthy, and under control
• ✨ Final detail work so everything looks right heading into spring

We don’t just “clean things up” —
we set the property up to perform all season.

Because skipping this step?
That’s what leads to struggling plants…
messy beds…
and playing catch-up all year.

Most people wait until it’s already out of control.
We’d rather get ahead of it.

This is the part that makes everything else easier —
the mowing, the growth, the overall look.

Done right now…
means less headaches later.

Lawn Leveling + Fresh Sod Install — | Sussex County, DE

Not every job is about making something look better…
Sometimes it’s about stepping in when no one else will.

HOA says… “not our problem.”
Developer says… “not our problem.”

Meanwhile — the homeowner is left dealing with it.

That’s where we step in.

• 🚜 Lawn leveling to correct uneven areas and poor grading
• 📏 Bringing the yard back to a smooth, usable surface
• 🌱 Premium sod installation from Quantico Creek sod — not box store material
• 💧 Setting the foundation for proper drainage and long-term lawn health
• 🚧 Caution tape installed to protect the new lawn — because mowing crews will be out next week
• ✨ Final grading + cleanup so it looks right and performs even better

This isn’t just about laying sod.

If the ground underneath isn’t right…
the lawn will never be right.

Most people skip that part.
We don’t.

Because “new grass” doesn’t fix a bad base —
it just hides it… temporarily.

And protecting it after we leave?
That matters just as much as the install.

Even if we’re not the mowing company —
we’re still looking out for our customers.

This is what it looks like when it’s done the right way —
from the ground up.

Family-run.

We appreciate every homeowner who trusts us to step in and get it done right. 🙏

Black Mulch Refresh + Drainage Upgrade — | Seaford, DE

Not every job is about adding something new.
Sometimes it’s about fixing what wasn’t working…
and doing it the right way so it lasts.

Mulch washing out.
Beds losing their shape.
Weeds slowly taking over.
Water dumping where it shouldn’t. 💧

The kind of things that don’t happen overnight…
but show up over time.

• 🌱 Full bed weeding & cleanout to reset the space properly
• ✂️ Defined edge installation to bring structure back and keep everything in place
• 🖤 Premium black mulch install for a clean, finished look that pops
• 🚧 Downspout drainage correction — buried underground and redirected to discharge safely into the sloping lawn
• ✨ Final detail work & cleanup so everything looks right when we leave

We don’t just throw mulch down and call it a day —
we address what caused the problem in the first place.

Because mulch washing out?
That’s not a mulch issue…
that’s a water issue. 💧

And if you don’t fix it —
you’re right back in the same spot next season.

This is the part most people don’t see…
the prep, the edging, the drainage —
the details that actually make it last.

That’s where we live.

🧱 Paver Patio Restoration — Done Right | Bridgeville, DE (Heritage Shores) 🧱

Not every job is about starting from scratch.
Some are about bringing something back to life.

Faded joints. Weeds are creeping in. Sand washed out.
The kind of things people walk past… until they don’t anymore.

• 🔥 Deep cleaning & surface prep to remove buildup and organic growth
• 💨 Professional pressure washing (done the right way — not rushed)
• 🧹 Joint preparation & removal of failed material
• 🧱 Installation of Alliance Gator Sand for long-term stability
• 💧 Final activation & set for a clean, solid finish

We handle it all so you don’t have to —
including removing patio furniture before the work starts and setting everything back in place once the job is complete.

This isn’t a “quick wash and walk away.”
It’s a 2-day process built to restore, reset, and extend the life of your patio — not just make it look good for a weekend.

We’re big on doing things the right way —
which is why we also partner with solid companies who take pride in their craft.

Shoutout to https://www.cleanpowerwash.com/ 🤝
Good people. Quality work. Same mindset.

Because the truth is —
anyone can spray a patio…
not everyone understands how to bring it back properly.

❄️ Work Speaks in Every Season | Sussex County, Delaware ❄️

Winter shifts the workload — but it doesn’t stop it.

Cold mornings. Heavy debris. Wet conditions.
And still, the work continues.

Behind the scenes this week 👇

• 🌳 Landscape cleanups & winter property care
• 🚜 Equipment staging for upcoming installs
• 🗑️ Dumpster deliveries & debris hauls through https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100093854395453
• 🧱 Jobsite cleanups to keep projects efficient and safe
• 🌱 Early spring scheduling & crew coordination underway

We don’t post much about the dumpster side — but that doesn’t mean it isn’t moving. Loads hauled. Sites cleared. Projects kept on track.

It’s not about being loud — it’s about being consistent.

At the core, designscapes remains the foundation —
landscape maintenance, turf care, enhancements, irrigation, hardscaping, and everything that keeps properties strong year-round.

The dumpster division supports that mission quietly —
helping homeowners and contractors keep projects clean, organized, and on schedule.

That mindset carries through every truck, every crew member, and every job — no matter the season.

❄️ Winter Care, Done the Right Way | Sussex County, Delaware ❄️

Winter has a way of testing everything — people, properties, and plans.
Cold mornings. Windy days. Wet snow. Ice where it doesn’t belong.

But winter is also where consistency and care matter most.

😊 Keeping properties safe, orderly, and monitored through the cold months doesn’t happen by accident.
It comes from showing up, paying attention to details, and taking pride in doing the small things right — even when growth is paused.

🌱 While lawns rest and mowing takes a break, Winter Care keeps properties from being forgotten.
It’s about prevention, safety, and setting the stage for a smooth spring — not scrambling when the weather finally turns.

Here’s what Winter Care focuses on 👇
• 🍂 Light debris cleanup from winter weather
• 🚶‍♂️ Clearing walkways, entries, and access areas
• 🧂 Ice melt application when conditions call for it
• ❄️ Minor snow actions to maintain safe access
• 👀 Ongoing property monitoring for issues that can’t wait until spring

Winter Care isn’t about perfection — it’s about oversight, safety, and peace of mind.

🌱 Rooted in service, grown on trust.
That mindset doesn’t stop when the season slows — it carries through all year.

❄️ Cold Week, Warm Smiles | Sussex County, Delaware ❄️

Winter has a way of wearing people down.

Cold mornings. Long days. Frozen fingers.

But weeks like this remind us that attitude shows — even in the cold ❄️🙂

😊 Smiles like these don’t come from easy conditions.
They come from teamwork, pride in the work, and people who show up for one another day after day.

🌱 While winter still lingers, the focus is already shifting forward. Spring is coming — and preparation is well underway to ensure a smooth, successful season ahead.

Here’s what’s being lined up 👇

• 🌼 Flower bed maintenance & seasonal cleanups
• ✂️ Tree pruning & trimming
• 🍂 Mulching & bed defining
• 🌱 Lawn care & turf programs
• 🚜 Lawn mowing & landscape maintenance
• 💧 Irrigation startups, maintenance & repairs
• 🪴 Plant installations & landscape design
• 💡 Landscape lighting installs
• 🌿 Sod installation & lawn renovations
• 🧱 Hardscaping, retaining walls & paver patios
• ⛳ Synthetic turf & putting green installations

Winter doesn’t break a strong team — it strengthens it.
And smiles like these are proof that culture matters just as much as craftsmanship.

🌱 Rooted in service, grown on trust.
That mindset starts with the people behind the work and carries through everything that’s done.

👏 Huge appreciation to the crew for pushing through a cold week with professionalism, positivity, and pride.

👷‍♂️ We’re always interested in connecting with hardworking, reliable people who take pride in what they do. Great teams are built with great people. Looking for a better place to work? 👉 https://designscapesllc.com/careers/

"Experience is earned in the hours no one sees."

It’s funny how some things may look from the outside✌️But storms have a way of settling the conversation. When it’s all said and done, there’s still a team standing — and the phones are still ringing.

The circle doesn’t have to be big — it just has to be reliable.

Not everything worth having is handed down.
Some things are built — and those tend to last.

Last weekend was a good reminder that real work doesn’t always fit neatly into a 9️⃣–5️⃣ schedule.

Did our office staff pull an all-nighter — and catch a nap right there in the office?
✅ Yes.

Did our dispatcher stay up through the night keeping everything moving?
✅ Also, yes.

Did our guys grab naps in the trucks between pushes?
✅ They did.

When your day starts at 1:30 AM and doesn’t wrap up until 6:00 PM, there’s no debating it — you do what needs to be done. Period.

As we get ready for another storm this weekend, it’s important to give credit where credit is due.

Last weekend was forecast as a “blizzard.”
Even though the outcome looked different to some, the expectation and preparation were exactly the same.

Here’s what actually happened 👇
• A team of 8 showed up hopped in three trucks, and rolled out — in weather even a goose wouldn’t enjoy 🦢 Not knowing what time was the end of the day either
• Everyone knew their role: time in & out, before-and-after photos, property boundaries, exact addresses, where snow goes, what gets cleared, and who gets priority
• Everyone played their part and didn’t give up on each other
• No drama. No confusion. Just ex*****on. And yes… plenty of Wawa ☕️🥪

Huge appreciation goes out to 🙌
🚜 Our field crew, pushing through long hours — most of it outside in rain, wind, and downright miserable conditions
🤝 Our subcontractors, answering the call and taking care of homes and businesses from Milton to Millsboro, Seaford to Bridgeville
🖥️ Our office staff, keeping everything organized while the rest of the world slept
🧂 Our suppliers, making salt and ice melt happen when it wasn’t easy
🏗️ Our rental partners, whose answer was simply: “Have it as long as you need it.”

Funny how effort is obvious when you’re part of it…and invisible when you’re not.

On to the next one ❄️💪

"Results don’t come from opinions — and not being part of the conversation doesn’t make an uninformed opinion correct."
