I'm going to hop on my soap box today so grab some popcorn and listen up. First off, I am a carpenter. I get paid to make sawdust. I am not a "contractor" or a babysitter. I am here to build what you are looking for, but you need to figure that out first. While I have absolutely no problem answering questions, it is not my house. I dont have to live with it or ever look at it again so what it ends up looking like is your decision, not mine.
This brings me to another issue I have. I am all for saving money, but trying to cheap out on materials for your home is not where to save a penny. There are very good reasons why I use the materials I do, mainly I simply do not like doing things twice. I've learned my lesson using cheap products and tools. It either costs me or the homeowner time and money, both of which always seem to be in short supply. Buy once, cry once is a good motto. We are very lucky to have some very knowledgeable people right here in town at the lumber yard that are always willing to help and these are the people I work with daily. It is their job to help you pick the best materials for your project and will always be where I point you to go. If you want to go elsewhere, go for it it's your house, but that is where my help ends. I will end this rant with a simple question. If you cannot afford to do it right the first time, whether that be in time or money, how do you plan on doing it twice?

I've been putting onyx showers in for years now. Yes they do cost more but it's cheaper than tile and definitely not as ugly as fiberglass. www.onyxcollection.com

This is a 12' x 6' window weighing a few hundred pounds. Thank you to the guys at the lumber yard for helping lift that bad boy in there.
