Even though color is the rage in home decorating, home sellers are better off painting their homes white. Color is a preference, can spark emotions, and often looks dated. White is a soothing color. Buyers, who are often emotionally charged and stressed out by the buying process, are less distracted by a white room.

Being prepared is a great strategy to achieve success. The Washington DC area is in high demand and inventory is low!! We are seeing the greatest inventory challenges that we have ever seen. New and active listings were down 4.4% and 43.1%, respectively, compared to February 2021. If you are looking for a home, Compass can help you with our access to "coming soon listings" -so that you can get a head start on other buyers.

Building costs, already high due to COVID-related supply chain issues, will continue to increase as oil prices rise due to the Russia conflict. Oil is found in all plastics, such as PVC pipes, and used in building materials for decoration, electric wiring, flooring, wall covering, water proofing, etc.
This is a good time to evaluate if your insurance policy for replacement costs reflects current market conditions.
Even using a 2% inflation rate, replacement costs would rise over 10% every 5 years.

This Saturday I participated in the Community Walk held by DC's Office of Planning to learn more about possible changes for Chevy Chase. It was great to see so many neighbors interested in our community's future. The plan explores how new buildings could look and function, to support the commercial district and provide new housing options. I'm happy to fill anyone in on what we learned!

Here is one of the first homes I sold in Bronxville, NY! The Tudor was popular from the 1890’s to the 1940’s in prominent suburbs in the northeast. Because of its complex custom layout, this design worked best on larger lots and was expensive to build. These stately homes became staples for well to do families, often those with new found wealth from the stock market, and were often referred to as “Stockbroker Tudors.” After WWII, with tighter budgets and simpler life styles, this style gave way to the Cape Cod.
