Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001, and honor the lives lost, the heroes who stepped forward, and the countless individuals whose lives were forever changed.

We remember the courage, compassion, and unity that brought people together during an incredibly difficult time. May we continue to honor their memory by cherishing our communities, supporting one another, and never forgetting.

Happy Labor Day from Forté Living!

Today, we’re taking a moment to recognize and thank our incredible staff and residents for the work they have done, continue to do, and will do in the future to make our community stronger.

Every person, every role, and every contribution matters. Much like the pieces of a puzzle, each of us plays an important part in creating a connected, supportive, and thriving community. When we bring our unique experiences, talents, and strengths together, the bigger picture is something truly special.

It’s National Charity Day! ❤️

Today, we’re giving a HUGE shoutout to Forté Living of Rochester for putting the power of community into action!

Through their 3rd Annual United Way Rummage Sale, residents, families, team members, and community supporters came together to raise OVER $12,000 for United Way of Southeast Minnesota! 🎉

And the impact goes far beyond that incredible number. This particular fundraiser helped provide more than 4,000 students with quality backpacks and school supplies, giving them the tools they need to start the new school year off right. 🎒📚

What an incredible reminder of what can happen when a community comes together for a great cause. Every donation, purchase, volunteer hour, and helping hand made a difference!

We are honored to have Don as part our community and are incredibly grateful for his 40 years of service in the United States Navy.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Don joined the Navy at just 17 years old and immediately fell in love with it. His first ship was a Destroyer, and over the course of his career, he worked his way up to become an E-9, which he proudly describes as reaching the top 1%. After 20 years, Don briefly tried civilian life before realizing how passionate he was about the Navy. The second part of his career was as a Government Employee working for the Navy. Don is now a Range Safety Officer in the local area.

Don describes his life as having two parts: the first was his military career, and the second has been dedicated to serving Christ. His faith was greatly influenced by his beloved wife, Linda, a graduate of Biola University. The two shared an incredible love story that began when Don met Linda at a Thanksgiving gathering while stationed in Long Beach. They talked all night, and the very next day, Don asked her to marry him. They spent 52½ wonderful years together and shared a son, James, and grandson, David. Linda passed away just over a year ago, but Don continues to speak of her with tremendous love.

Don is proud of the ways he has been able to give back through his faith, including five years with the Awana program, five years leading weekly services at a nursing home, performing weddings, and preaching at several small churches in the area, primarily Preston Christian Church.

Today, Don is happy to call Forté home. His two-bedroom, one-bath apartment is the perfect fit for him and his rescue Chihuahua, Zeus, whom Don jokingly calls “a rescue, just like me.” He enjoys a good beer, spending time in the community room, and visiting with friends. Don says he feels well taken care of at Forté and appreciates the people and friendships he has found here. He is a great storyteller and a heck of a man, and we are so glad he is part of our community. Please thank Don for his service—and don’t be shy to strike up a conversation. You’ll be glad you did!

September is here, and we have lots of great things planned for the month!

Just a few of the September highlights include lunch outings to Cook’s Kitchen, Guadalajara, and Craft Chophouse & Lounge, plus our Community Baked Potato Bar Potluck. We’ll also be heading out for shopping trips to Hy-Vee, Walmart, Aldi, and Target!

There are plenty of ways to keep moving this month, too, with ball drumming, lymphatic exercises, walking, yoga, and more.

We’ll also be celebrating some special holidays and national days, including Labor Day, National Grandparents Day, National Housekeepers Day, the First Day of Autumn, and National Property Managers Day!

It’s going to be a great September at Forté Living, and we’re looking forward to spending the month with all of you!
