New York has the ONLY train station on the Appalachian Trail. Located about 65 miles north of Grand Central Station near Pawling New York. Service is limited as you can see, the platform is not even a full train car length. Though there is a new boardwalk for the AT away from the platform. Check the Metro North schedule for service times.

NEW YORK CITY FERRY TO ROCKAWAY BEACH. Great way to spend a hour on the water. Only $ 2.75 each way !! I recommend going during the weekday near evening. Less crowded and better chance to get an upper deck seat. Departs hourly from Pier 11 @ Wall Street. Brooklyn also has a Rockaway Beach Ferry stop at Sunset Park. Plus two other stops in Dumbo and Red Hook.
