Who knew!? Wow! That’s a wow!!
John Travolta does not just fly private jets, he parks a Boeing 737 in his front yard...
Travolta started taking flying lessons at 15 and earned his private pilot's license at 22, right around the time Saturday Night Fever was about to change his life. He has said that acting funded his real passion, which was always aviation. Today he holds type ratings for aircraft ranging from small military jets to commercial airliners, including the Boeing 707, Boeing 737, and a Boeing 747 rating issued in Australia. He was even the first non-test pilot to fly an Airbus A380 after Qantas arranged the opportunity for him.
His most famous plane was a Boeing 707-138B, originally delivered to Qantas Airways in 1964. Travolta bought it in 1998, restored it, and painted it in the original Qantas livery. He named it Jett Clipper Ella after his children. He flew it on humanitarian missions, including bringing medical supplies and doctors to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. He later donated the aircraft to the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society in Australia.
Travolta lives in Jumbolair Aviation Estates in Ocala, Florida, a fly-in community built around a private airport with two runways. His late wife Kelly Preston once told Hello Magazine that it was always his dream to have planes in his front yard. A taxiway leads right to his door, and his current fleet includes a Boeing 737-300 and a Dassault Falcon 900B.
Some people collect cars. Some people collect watches. Travolta built his entire life around planes, and the runway is literally his driveway.
