SCAM ALERT
Franklin County EMA is warning residents about false information being given to people affected by the flooding.
Someone is reportedly telling residents not to clean up their homes and not to document their damage. This is NOT correct.
Residents CAN begin cleaning up their property. Before removing damaged materials or cleaning away evidence of flooding, take plenty of photographs and video to document the damage.
• Photograph the high-water mark from about 10 feet away so the extent of the flooding can clearly be seen.
• Take additional photos and video of damaged rooms, belongings, appliances, flooring, walls and other property before cleaning or throwing items away.
• Complete a 211 damage assessment request so your damage is included in the official assessment.
You do not have to leave your home sitting wet and damaged while waiting for someone to inspect it. Document the damage thoroughly, then begin the cleanup process when it is safe to do so.
