The Four Stages of the "Ber" Month Paradox

Stage 1: The September Amnesia (September 1st – 10th)
The calendar flips to September, and a collective madness takes over. Even if it is 97 degrees outside, you've seen people wearing knit sweaters, sweating profusely into their pumpkin spice lattes. You may be thinking, "Christmas is practically next week. I should start shopping." But instead, you do nothing because December still feels like a distant, abstract concept.

Stage 2: The October Acceleration (October 1st – 31st)
Time begins to move at twice its normal speed. You blink, and suddenly you are knee-deep in fake spiderwebs and buying giant bags of candy that you will inevitably eat yourself before Halloween even arrives. You look at your budget and think, "I’ll save money next month." Spoiler alert: You won't.

Stage 3: The November No-Man's-Land (November 1st – 30th)
This is the most confusing month of the year. Retail stores completely erase Thanksgiving from existence. You walk into a store looking for a turkey platter and get hit in the face by a 12-foot artificial pine tree blasting holiday music. You realize you have zero holiday gifts purchased. Panic begins to set in. Your bank account looks at you with deep concern.

Stage 4: The December Finish Line (December 1st – 31st)
The grand finale. Your diet consists entirely of holiday cookies, finger foods, and stress. You are ordering packages at midnight, praying to the shipping gods they arrive by Christmas Eve. You spend all your money, eat your weight in roasts and pies, and tell yourself, "Next year, I'm going to be organized." Then January hits, the lights come down, and you wait eight months to do the exact same thing all over again.
