Habitat Homeowner Eligibility Criteria
We build simple, decent homes for low-income families with the help of volunteer labor. Selected families buy the home at 0% interest, and they also help in the building of the home.

You do not need to be affiliated with any church or religion to qualify or own your own home.

To qualify for a home through Habitat for Humanity, you must meet these requirements:

1. Demonstrate the need present in current housing
Current home is overcrowded (school-age children of different sexes sharing bedrooms or using common areas for bedrooms)

Unsafe (physical deterioration beyond reasonable repair)

Financial burden (monthly costs are too much)

2. Have the ability to pay for a home

3. Have a willingness to Partner

When talking about affordable housing Buckhannon River Habitat for Humanity doesn’t just talk the talk. They walk the walk ! Every house they’ve ever built since 1992 had a payment under $400 which includes the taxes and insurance for a year!!! The way this is done is the house is built by volunteers. Sometimes materials are donated. Very few parts of the labor are actually paid for . The total cost of the mortgage includes the land and the cost of the building materials that were not donated and there is no interest on a Habitat home. We stretch the payments out for 30 years and most of all the Home is built with ❤️. Partner Family has to give several hundred hours in donating their help to hold up their end of the bargain. So, this is a win-win plan for affordable housing….
We have a family for the home that is currently being built and hope to have them in this home by winter. If you would like to make a donation to cause fundraising is one area we could truly use help with besides anyone that wants to physically get involved or join our board please send me a private message.
