CBCA enjoyed attending a session at the 2026 NY Statewide Preservation Conference at Fenimore Farm and Country Village in Cooperstown, NY. The talk, led by the Timber Framers Guild, was a great opportunity to learn about early-19th century barn construction. We also made a new friend along the way - Fiona, the adorable baby Jersey cow!

Last week Clinton Brown got to visit the Holland Land Office Museum to present a copy of Olmsted’s Elmwood to Executive Director Ryan Duffy under the watchful eye of Joseph Ellicott. Ellicott described his vision for what would be called Buffalo, shown in map upper left, as a place ”...designed by nature for the grand emporium of the world…”.

Ellicott’s intersection of design, nature, and commerce in making a place worth living in infused the creation of Buffalo’s Elmwood District after the Civil War. The Holland Land Office Museum is a must see for all fans of Western New York’s past, present and future!

One of the benefits of owning a historic home is having access to the State's Homeowner Historic Tax Credit program. A new bill in the NYS legislature seeks to maximize its value and expand its use.

Please reach out to your legislators now and ask them to co-sponsor S4057A Fahy/A5453 Woerner and tell leadership it is time to restore the Homeowner Tax Credit.

Check out the link below to learn more and find out how to support this important bill.

As of January 1, 2025, the homeowner portion of the NYS Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program stepped down significantly in value from a maximum of $50,000 per project to $25,000. Additionally, the rebate provision of the credit, which has been so helpful to those homeowners without the state t

We are thrilled to share that two CBCA projects have been recommended for listing on the State and National Registers! Last week the State Board for Historic Preservation heard presentations for the both the Burton H. Hurd House and the Center and Pearl Streets Historic District.

Our team worked with the home's owner to tell the story of Burton Hurd, a prominent 20th century lumber manufacturer who used his status to build a stately residence to entertain guests in the pastoral Village of Elma. We also collaborated with Imagine Forestville to establish a historic district that encompasses a collection of over 20 historic properties formed in connection to the establishment of the railroad.

Once approved by the NPS, they will join the list of nationally significance properties across New York State who have access to historic tax credits.
Check out the article below to learn more and contact us today if you are interested in having your historic home get the same benefits of listing!

An envelope manufacturing facility in Buffalo, an energy-efficient office building, two former Western New York residences, a historic district in Forestville and an Olean basilica are poised to take their place in history after being nominated for listing on the State and National Registers of Hist...
