We have more to share on the F&M Building in Lockport from Jonathan D. Epstein at The Buffalo News.

Savarino Companies closed on the six-story Beaux-Arts landmark built in 1905 as the Farmers & Mechanics Savings Bank last week. Vacant for nearly 40 years, it is the tallest building in the city.

The renovation will bring 16 market-rate apartments to the upper floors, restore the original bank floor and ornamental plaster at street level, and create space for a bar, restaurant, or café below.

Construction begins this year, with completion expected in late 2027.

Developer Samuel Savarino completed his purchase of the six-story Farmers & Mechanics Savings Bank building in Lockport, with plans to turn it into 16 luxury apartments on the upper floors and "high-end" commercial and retail space on the two lower levels.

Happy Monday, Niagara Falls!

Work continues at the former (and soon-to-be again) Hotel Niagara. Abatement, plumbing repair, roof replacement, and restoration of the historic plaster are underway. It is not hard to imagine what this structure will look like once completely restored and operational.

Buffalo developer Samuel Savarino's effort to revive the former headquarters for Welch Foods in the village of Westfield is finally moving ahead after four years of planning.

"A project that has been years in the making is now ready to begin," CCIDA CEO and deputy Chautauqua County Executive Mark Geise said.
