💧 AMAZON INVESTS $20 MILLION TO HELP PROTECT THE COLORADO RIVER

Amazon has announced a $20 million investment in Colorado River water-conservation projects.

The money is part of a larger effort called the Colorado River Basin Collaborative, which aims to raise approximately $100 million over two years for projects designed to conserve water throughout the Colorado River Basin.

Some of the projects include:

🔹 Northern Arizona: About $2.4 million for irrigation-efficiency technology on tribal farmland, including sensors that help determine when crops actually need water. The project is expected to save approximately 730 acre-feet of water per year.

🔹 Southern California: About $2.2 million for expanded water-leak detection and repairs.

The Colorado River provides water to Arizona, California, Nevada and Mexico, and supplies major communities including Phoenix and Las Vegas.

For those of us in Arizona—and especially around Lake Havasu and the Lower Colorado River—water conservation is extremely important.

⚠️ One important clarification: Amazon is NOT buying $20 million worth of Colorado River water or purchasing control of the river. The $20 million is being invested in water-conservation projects intended to reduce water consumption and improve efficiency.

Amazon says the effort is part of its goal to become “water positive” by 2030.
