Selling a home in one of Glendale's fire hazard zones? California requires
the seller to give the buyer documentation that the property meets
defensible space rules. In Glendale, the fire department handles that
inspection through its EnerGov portal for $115, which is separate from the
$115 annual Vegetation Management fee some owners already pay. Our new

The Saugus train station opened on June 21, 1888, where Southern Pacific's lines to Los Angeles and the San Joaquin Valley met.

It stood beside San Fernando Road, just south of Drayton Street, close to where Magic Mountain Parkway meets Bouquet Canyon Road today. Passenger service there ended altogether in 1971.

The building was headed for the wrecking ball when a long community effort saved it. On June 24, 1980 the depot was moved to Heritage Junction, next to William S. Hart Park in Newhall.

The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society has restored it to its busiest years, 1917 to 1958, and opens it as a museum on Saturday afternoons.

So the tracks stayed where they were, and the station left them. Heritage Junction itself is on the City of Santa Clarita's list of structures designated under its historic preservation ordinance. That list is public, and it is worth reading before planning changes to any older building in the city.

Redfin counted 27 condos for sale in Burbank over June through August 2026, up from 21 in the same months last year.

That sounds like a jump. Measured against sales, it barely moved: 3.9 months of supply this summer, 3.8 a year ago. More condos also sold, 22 in those three months against 17 a year earlier.

A cluster of for-sale signs on one block usually says more about the buildings than about the street. Condos come in buildings, so a few owners in the same complex selling in the same season put several signs on one stretch at once. About one in five homes in Burbank sits in a building with 20 or more units, according to Census Bureau estimates for 2020 to 2024, so condo listings tend to bunch.

For anyone curious about a particular building, its recent sales and how long they took show whether the pace there is unusual. A count of signs on the sidewalk cannot tell you that.

Burbank is looking for five residents, workers or property owners from the Rancho to sit on the Rancho Review Board. Applications close October 16 at 5:00 p.m.

The board looks at Development Review projects inside the Rancho Master Plan Area and checks them against Article 24, the Rancho Master Plan zoning rules. It is advisory. The city describes it as an ad-hoc body appointed by staff with no decision-making authority, but its review is part of the process for new projects in the Rancho.

To qualify, you need to be at least 21 and live, work, or own property within the Rancho Master Plan Area, with proof. Terms run two years, and the city says the five members will be selected randomly from qualified applicants.

Applications go in online or on paper at the City Clerk's Office, City Hall, 275 East Olive Avenue, first floor.

A hillside house in Pasadena is measured twice before it can grow.

One limit comes from the lot: on larger RS-2-HD lots, 22.5 percent of lot area plus 500 square feet, counting the garage. The other comes from the street: no more than 35 percent above the median house within 500 feet, with garages and basements left out.

On July 1, 2026, a state law called SB 79 took effect. Near the North Hollywood Metro station it allows buildings up to 75 feet within a quarter mile. Most North Hollywood lots will not see that before 2030.

The reason is local. In June 2026 the Los Angeles City Council adopted two ordinances, effective June 30: a Low-Rise Ordinance and a Phased Implementation Ordinance. Together they defer most SB 79 sites in the city toward 2030 instead of opening them all at once.

At the same time, the draft Southeast Valley Community Plan keeps new density along Lankershim, Van Nuys and Sepulveda, with a step-down next to blocks that stay at 45 feet or lower.

For an owner this comes down to a few lookups in ZIMAS: the lot's zone and height district, the distance to the station, and whether the parcel sits in an HPOZ or a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. Those answers say more about the lot's next ten years than any listing description.
