🏠Texas Homestead Exemption News!

Texas has increased the Homestead Exemption to $140,000, and $150,000 for seniors.
In addition, Texas law now requires appraisal districts to verify homestead exemptions every five years (Texas Tax Code 11.43 (h-1)). This requirement, passed in 2023, is being implemented by many districts for the first time this year. Homeowners may receive a simple form requesting confirmation of their homestead status or a request for a new homestead exemption application. It is important to respond to these requests promptly, as they are part of the district's mandated verification process.
Don't ignore these letters! With all the scams going on out there, it's hard to know what's legit and what isn't. Please contact your local Central Appraisal District if you're in doubt about any documents that you receive. And remember, there is never a fee to file for an exemption. There are some very official looking companies that will send out information offering to file for you for a fee; don't fall for it!
Whether you receive a request for verification or not, remember to carefully check your Notice of Appraised Value in April to confirm your homestead exemption is still in place.
