Beyond the Headlines
Because a Home Is More Than a Transaction.
Home
Such a simple word.
Yet it is where we build our lives, create memories, celebrate milestones, and find comfort at the end of each day.
That is why the recent fire in Foster City stayed with me.
My first thought was not about the listing.
It was about the families.
The memories inside those walls.
The truth is, this story felt especially personal because I recently experienced a kitchen fire in my own home.
Thankfully, it was contained before it became something much worse. But it reminded me how quickly an ordinary day can change—and how easy it is to believe these things only happen to someone else.
Over the years, I have learned that buying a home is only the beginning.
❤️ Protecting it is a lifelong responsibility.
So today, instead of talking about mortgage rates or the housing market, I simply want to encourage every homeowner to spend a few minutes reviewing a few important things.
✔️ Is your homeowners insurance still adequate for today's rebuilding costs?
✔️ Have you tested your smoke alarms recently?
✔️ Are your carbon monoxide detectors working properly?
✔️ Does your security system also monitor for smoke, fire, carbon monoxide, or even water leaks?
✔️ Do you have a fire extinguisher that everyone in your family knows how to use?
✔️ Have you created a simple photo or video inventory of your home for insurance purposes?
✔️ Does everyone in your household know what to do in an emergency?
These are easy things to postpone...
..until the day you wish you had not.
As a real estate advisor, I have always believed my responsibility extends beyond helping someone buy or sell a home.
It is about helping people protect one of the biggest investments—and one of the most meaningful places—in their lives.
If reading this encourages even one family to test their smoke alarms, review their insurance coverage, or create an emergency plan, then something positive has come from a very difficult story.
My thoughts are with everyone affected by the Foster City fire, and my sincere gratitude goes to the firefighters and first responders who put themselves in harm's way to protect others.
If you have a home safety tip that has helped protect your family, I would love for you to share it in the comments. We can all learn from one another.
Wishing you and your loved ones safety, good health, and many happy memories in the place you call home. ❤️
