Sometimes the best way to understand the impact of our work is to hear directly from the people who experience it. Junny Tsiba, a refugee from Congo Brazzaville, spent two years preparing to buy her home. “Renting was fine, but having your own place makes you live the American dream and rewards me for my hard work,” she explained. Her home in Burlington’s New North End was built by Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity in partnership with Champlain Housing Trust.

Your credit score is part of your homebuying picture — but it doesn’t have to be a mystery.

If buying a home is in your future, start with a few basics:
• Review your credit report and check for errors
• Pay bills on time
• Keep credit card balances low compared with your limits
• Avoid opening unnecessary new credit lines before applying for a mortgage
If your credit needs work, that doesn’t mean homeownership is off the table. It may simply mean giving yourself more time to prepare.

We had fun at North Beach at our Members’ Day Picnic! It was great catching up with so many members. Playing lawn games, enjoying the picnic buffet, blowing bubbles, moving to the music, and having our face painted was awesome, too. Thank you Owen Leavey for taking photos, DJ Melo Grant for music that made us dance, Tes Gallucci for entertaining feats of juggling, Emma Risener for dazzling face painting, and Mulu’s Kitchen and Catering and Diggers’ Mirth Collective Farm for delicious side dishes. Thank you Intervale Community Farm for donating watermelon and vegetables, and thank you to our Board, staff, and volunteers who helped make the day go smoothly. And finally, thank YOU for being there and taking time to celebrate this remarkable community so joyfully! Enjoy the photos.
