Today, we recognize and celebrate Juneteenth, a day that marks a pivotal moment in American history.
On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, bringing news that the Civil War had ended and enslaved people were free. This event became known as Juneteenth and is recognized as the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.
As we reflect on the meaning of this day, we honor the progress it represents and the importance of continuing to build stronger, more inclusive communities.
