If you’re house hunting, here’s what’s happening in simple terms 👇
A major Chicago-area MLS (the system agents use to share listings) and Zillow are currently in a dispute over listing rules.
MRED requested that Zillow cure those violations by 11:59 p.m. cst on May 19, 2026, which they failed to do.
As a result:
🏡 Some of the thousands of homes from the MLS may no longer appear on Zillow or Trulia.
❌ It does NOT mean the homes are off the market.
📍 They are still available through agents, brokerage websites, and other real estate platforms.
What this means for buyers:
👉 If you only search on Zillow, you could miss available homes.
What this means for sellers:
👉 Your home may have less visibility on Zillow specifically, even though it’s still actively listed. It doesn’t change for other platforms.
💡 Zillow is NOT the entire housing market.
Working with an agent and checking multiple sources matters more than ever in today’s market.
We are constantly monitoring the market and stay up to date.
