According to new Zillow data, Pittsburgh ranks as the #1 most affordable major U.S. city to buy a home in 2026, with housing costs accounting for approximately 22% of household income.

For those of us who live and work here, it’s not hard to see the appeal. We have a strong job market, incredible neighborhoods, world-class healthcare and universities, great schools throughout the region, and a cost of living that still compares favorably with many major metropolitan areas.

Both of these young couples bought their first homes with me, and called me when they were ready to buy again! Both added children to their families and needed a larger home! So we found the perfect homes, got their current homes listed and under contract quickly and now both families are getting settled in a lot more space!!! A huge congratulations to my clients on buying their beautiful new home a few weeks ago and officially closing on the sale of their former home on Friday! 🎉

Buying a home is stressful. Selling a home is stressful. Doing both at the same time? That's like trying to switch planes mid-flight. 😅 Between inspections, appraisals, packing, deadlines, and enough paperwork to keep a printer busy for weeks... it's no small feat.

Even with the market constantly changing, homes in the Pittsburgh area are still moving when they're priced right, and this is another great example of having the right plan from day one.

Pocket listings, bidding wars and a shortage of available houses has resulted in a luxury real estate boom unlike anything Pittsburgh has seen.

In the 46 days between May 1 and June 15, buyers purchased 81 homes costing $1 million or more across the Pittsburgh region, according to West Penn Multi-List data. Those sales generated nearly $134 million in volume — up from 60 sales totaling $88 million during the same period a year ago.

The average sale price of million-dollar homes climbed from $1.46 million to $1.6 million, while the number of sales of homes priced above $2 million jumped from eight to 13 this year.

It adds up to a record number of million-plus-dollar deals recorded this spring from the East End to luxury enclaves in suburban communities such as Adams, Pine, Mt. Lebanon and Edgeworth.

That’s a striking development in a metropolitan area better known for its modestly priced houses and blue-collar neighborhoods than bidding wars for seven-figure homes.
