Wonderful news today: in Grafton Township, Maine, Northeast Wilderness Trust and Forest Society of Maine together protected 21,000 acres! The Forest Society of Maine now holds a conservation easement on 15,000 acres of sustainably managed forests, and Northeast Wilderness Trust now owns 6,000 acres of critical watershed and high elevation habitat to be passively managed as wilderness. The newly conserved Grafton lands border the Appalachian Trail and contain two of its highly used side trails. These lands, which are rated highly for their resiliency to climate change, are now protected from conversion to non-forest uses in an area experiencing strong development pressures. We are incredibly grateful to Open Space Institute, The Nature Conservancy, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Maine Community Foundation, Sweet Water Trust, EJK Foundation, Betterment Fund, and Bailey Wildlife Foundation for helping protect these lands, along with more than a dozen other generous foundations and over 100 individual donors. Thank you!

My left foot is closer to the North Pole than my right foot which is closer to the equator. The middle is a monument I placed exactly on the 45 degree north latitude, off route 27 a few miles north of Kingfield. Enjoy

I think most people know already but if not everyone should know that our local Buxton Hollis Historical Society is top notch. Their museum is closed for April but they recently compiled this video library showcasing local historical videos and documentaries for your viewing pleasure. Most if not all of these were produced in conjunction with S**o River Community Television another wonderful local public service organization:

Our purpose is to collect, preserve and publish historical items and records relating to Buxton and Hollis, Maine.

"Robert Yarumian, a professional land surveyor and owner of Maine Boundary Consultants in Buxton, said many of those early boundaries were marked with stone walls, trees or granite markers that have long since disappeared. Surveyors marking early boundaries may have thought they were on the same track and the discrepancies don’t come to light for generations.

Maine law used to require neighboring towns to perambulate, or walk their boundaries, every 10 years. In the last century that practice became rare, and in the 1980s, the requirement was taken off the books, Yarumian said.

It is up to the Legislature to set municipal boundaries, Yarumian said. When a controversy over a municipal border arises, either town involved can file a complaint in Superior Court requesting the line be run. State statute requires three commissioners be appointed by the court to review the line, establish temporary markers and report the new boundary to the court."

Meanwhile, the uncertainty over the York-Kittery line has left a local developer in limbo, York officials say.

Greetings Face Book Friends
I am pleased to inform you I have a new book published.
THE GREAT LAND GRAB
“Our Beaches Ripped from their True Owners: The Town Inhabitants”
Available through towerpub.com or Amazon
Cost is $25.00.
This book is and will be piece of history concerning the ownership of Southern Maine Beach.
In 2016 there was an 11 day trial concerning the ownership of Goose Rocks Beach in the Town of Kennebunkport Maine. I sent 6 days on the witness standing testifying in behalf of the Town and public. On October 03, this year this case was affirmed by the Maine Supreme Law Court.
The ruling that was made is and will be very historic.
During the 2016 court case Historian Dr. Edwin A. Churchill, PhD, former director of the Maine State Museum also testified. After the court case we were contracted to by the Town of Wells to do research from Moody Beach and Wells Beach. Our findings were similar to what was found for the Goose Rocks Beach case.
Due to our findings we found it necessary perform addition research and co-author this book.
Our Beaches are not privately owned. The true owners are the Town Inhabitants, and all should have the right to recreation on the beaches.

Please share this post and most importantly buy this book.
It will make a great Christmas present.

ENJOY THE BEACH.
