A wise person once told me to surround myself with people who are smarter than I am. More specifically, I like to surround myself with people who are experts at what they do. I might be a jack of all trades, but there are times when I want an expert at my side.

I know a little about building. And I know a little about design. But I’m not an expert.

Pictured are our team and experts Brian, Michelle, & Seth, who helped us in building our custom home.

Here’s a little about Michelle Loveless:

My wife and Michelle have been friends for many years after meeting in a Church Bible study. There is a fair bit of trust involved in a relationship like this, so having a longer/deeper relationship can be helpful.

Michelle shared two key points with us during our initial meeting to discuss our project. First, she encouraged us to ‘always ask the question’. This is her way of encouraging us to seek clarity when things aren’t clear; to gain further understanding when we want to know ‘why’, or ‘why not’. It doesn’t hurt to ask; we just need to be confident and ask the question.

Second, she reassured us that her goal was to help us build our house the way we want it to look, rather than imposing her design style on us. I’ve come to realize that this is a trait of an experienced designer. The ability to help someone design something that you don’t like can be tough.

I’m not saying that Michelle thinks our home is ugly (it’s not). She wouldn’t let us build an ugly home! But I am saying that even though Michelle’s preferred style might be different from ours, she’s great at helping us find our style and really lean into it.

Michelle has been a valuable member of our team from day one!

There will be many more people who play a role on ‘our team’, each bringing their unique area of expertise. It’s good to be surrounded by experts. 🙂

We are currently preparing to list our home! Here are 10 things we did and would recommend doing if you are going to sell your home in the next 6 months:

#1) Declutter. Go through each room and clear any unnecessary clutter. Get a storage unit or donate items you no longer need! This provides a clean slate for when buyers eventually walk through your home.

#2) Remove personal photos, furniture, and art pieces. Buyers want to walk into a home & picture their family. Making a more neutral space provides an inviting feeling.

#3) Clean windows. It’s amazing how much more light transfers when windows and screens are fresh and clean.

#4) Staging! Bring in some light staging pieces to every room to make it look and feel like a model home. Simple items, such as fresh hand towels, kitchen towels, and seasonal door wreaths, can help make it feel like a new home.

#5) Touch up paint. Any doors, trim, baseboards, or walls as needed. This does wonders to make your home look fresh and new!

#6) Hide EVERYTHING! Now this isn’t realistic for everyday life, but on picture day, we don’t want your home to feel lived in, we want it to feel new, clean, and tidy. Hide as much as you can in closets or other out-of-site areas.

#7) Deep clean! Right before hitting the market, give those less common pieces and areas a deep clean - baseboards, cabinet covers, fans, door k***s, showers, and bathtubs. If possible, pay a professional housekeeper to come in and do the job right! We have tons of great, local recommendations.

#8) Landscaping. Mowing and trimming the yard and any landscaping can go a long way. Curb appeal is your home’s first impression, so freshening mulch beds or planting fresh flowers never hurts!

#9) Pressure wash. Here in Michigan, outdoor spaces are sought-after and ideal. Whether you rent a pressure washer or hire a professional, look at cleaning any outdoor concrete or paver areas.

#10) Lighting. A bright home creates a great impression. Replace every light bulb that isn’t working or any casting a yellow shade. Bright white bulbs are ideal. The brighter the room, the larger it looks!

If you’re planning to sell anytime in the next 6 months, these 10 things can make a big impact on your home’s first impression with buyers. They’re well worth your time, money, and energy to get exposure and ideally, top dollar for your home.

Truth is, when most folks hire a Realtor, they don't really know what they are paying for. Other than the paperwork & a sign in the yard. But when you hire me? I can tell you exactly what you're paying for.

Of course I'll take care of the paperwork, the MLS, the negotiations, & the sign in the yard. Those are the basics.

But here's where I'm different. I actually invest my own money in the sale of your home. I've got skin in the game, too.

For every listing, I personally spend my own money making sure your house hits the market set up for success.

I film a proper walk through video professionally edited by my marketing team for each listing. Not a picture slideshow. I put this video on social media so that potential buyers can have the best access to each listing without having to sign up to receive any information about it.

Then, I spend at least $500 of my own money on a targeted, social media strategy to advertise your home here in the West Michigan area.

On average? My videos get over 65k views.
And that's just in the first week.

I can't share all the secrets, but over the last 5 years I've partnered with an exclusive marketing company that only works with one Realtor per market.
So I know I'm the only agent that's able to implement this specific ad strategy here in West Michigan.

It's not cheap. In fact, invest around $3,000 every month on marketing. But I'm a big believer in the idea that you get what you pay for!
