The owners of Woodland Hills Country Club purchased this historic property in 2020 with the clear intention of using a new fast-track housing law to redevelop the land. Their current proposal would replace a 100-year-old golf course with 398 three-story stackable townhomes and four-story apartment buildings near Dumetz Road and Canoga Avenue.
This development would permanently alter our community and create serious risks:
🚗 Traffic & Safety
• The surrounding streets were never designed to handle an influx of 1,200+ new residents
• Traffic congestion would severely impact evacuation routes
• The area is already considered high fire risk, and blocked evacuations could be catastrophic
🏡 Community Impact
• This is a quiet, established neighborhood with homes largely built in the 1950s and 1960s
• The scale of this project is incompatible with the character of the area
• Once construction begins, additional phases are likely to follow, further increasing density
📜 Fast-Tracked Without Local Input
• Under AB 2011, developers can bypass standard review processes if a portion of units are designated as affordable housing
• This law was never intended to override legitimate safety, traffic, and environmental concerns
🏘️ Housing Reality
• We are repeatedly told there is a housing shortage, yet unsold homes are currently sitting on the market in record numbers
• There is ample undeveloped land elsewhere that would not endanger existing communities
This project is not responsible planning — it is profit-driven overdevelopment at the expense of public safety, infrastructure, and quality of life.
We must stand together to protect our neighborhood and demand development that is thoughtful, safe, and appropriate.
