When I first started my real estate career, my grandma told me that her best friend’s son was wanting to sell his 7 acre property in Meridian and to give him a call. Terrified, I made the call only to be told, “Thanks but no thanks. I have a network of more experienced realtors and won’t be listing with you …But, and this is a big BUT... If you have any developers you want to send my way, I would be happy to take a look at opportunities like those."
Opposed to cowering away, his rejection motivated me: Challenge accepted! New to the business, I didn’t know any developers. I reached out to a co-worker I trusted for advice. He was extremely helpful, and was able to generate a few interested developers who we ended taking out to the property.
At this point, I met the seller in person where he once again communicated that I would not be getting his listing. I reassured him that I understood. I simply saw an opportunity to learn, and potentially find a buyer for him.
I got to work learning everything I could about the property. We pitched it to so many developers that when the time came for this seller to list the property, he sat my co worker and I down for breakfast and said he wanted to list with us — We deserved it!
I won’t ever forget that moment and how good it felt to truly EARN his business. We attended countless city meetings during the process of selling his property. We ended up meeting a couple who lived across the
street from our seller, and formed a solid relationship with them. They too said they would not be listing their 15 acres, but would be selling themselves.
Almost a year later, still staying in contact
and providing them with advice, they decided to let us sell their property and help them buy their new home!
So here we are, 2 years later having gotten 3 transactions amounting to nearly $3 MILLION in sales... When it all started with a “no”.
As a new agent, I put in so much hard work and dedication on this, regardless of not knowing if it would lead anywhere. Don't be intimated by what you don't know - Take it as a challenge. Show up with excitement to learn, and push yourself to grow! ❤️
