Calico Rock sits on a bluff over the White River in Izard County, and the name comes from exactly what you are seeing — the streaked, multicolored rock face that steamboat pilots used as a landmark coming upriver. The town grew right on top of it as a river landing and then as a railroad stop. 🪨

The whole place is a National Register historic district now, with a museum, shops, and one of the best river views in the Ozarks. 🏞️ Thanks to everybody who spoke up on the last one — I would rather get it right than get it fast.
