In the spring we shared our private on-property dinners with Grove 45 and Chef Paul Fields, and you loved them as much as we do. Here’s the fall version. This time of year Paul cooks the way everyone up here wants to eat, whatever the farms around us just brought in, made for the w**es on the table, and served right at your cottage. Candles on the table, the person you came with, and nobody else’s conversation at the next table.⁠

How we’d spend 48 hours in Calistoga in late October. Save this one. ⁠

Day one, drop your bags, walk to dinner on Lincoln Avenue, stroll home under the stars. Day two, coffee on the porch, a morning hike on the Oat Hill Mine Trail, lunch downtown, a lazy afternoon on the patio, one tasting before golden hour. Day three, farmers market if it’s Saturday, one last glass on the patio, and home (reluctantly).⁠

Harvest wrapped early this year, so we’re toasting it the Calistoga way, with bubbles, underground. 🥂

Just up the road from us, Schramsberg has been making sparkling w**e on the same hillside since 1862. Its caves were dug by hand in the 1800s, and a visit winds through those cool, dim tunnels past stacks of bottles aging quietly in the dark before ending with a seated tasting of their sparkling w**es. It’s one of the most memorable hours you can spend in Napa Valley, and the perfect way to raise a glass to a vintage that came in early.

Cooler nights mean longer dinners. Here’s where we’d book this month.

Calistoga punches way above its size when it comes to dinner, and October is when the menus get good, squash, wild mushrooms, slow braises, and w**e lists made for all of it.

Lovina, for a cozy, seasonal dinner in a little house just off Lincoln Avenue. Truss at the Four Seasons, for a dressed-up night out with the vineyards outside the window. Solbar at Solage, for a long, celebratory meal. And Calistoga Inn, for something easy on the patio by the river.

A few of these are a short walk from your cottage, so you can linger over one more glass and stroll home. Save this for your trip, and tell us your Calistoga go-to in the comments.

Picture a Tuesday in December in Calistoga.

Mist low over the Palisades, coffee on the porch, nowhere to be. Around eleven you stroll into town with your Winter in the Wineries Passport. The pace has slowed, the pours are unhurried, and the person behind the bar has time to tell you the story behind every glass. Back at the cottage, the Lola Pinot Noir that was waiting when you arrived is open, next to a box of Annette's Chocolates, filled with delectable chocolates.

Some of our favorite people in this valley are the ones who drive our guests around. 🚐

We work with a small handful of transportation and touring partners we trust completely, and what they do goes way beyond driving. Tell them who’s in your group and what you like to drink, and they’ll build the whole day around you — the producers you already love, a couple you’ve never heard of, and those appointment-only estates that don’t take walk-ins and are nearly impossible to get into on your own (they know people). They make every reservation, keep the whole day on time, and drop you back at your cottage with nothing left to figure out except dinner.
