Radon is a naturally occurring gas that can enter a home through its foundation. You can't see it, smell it, or taste it, but long-term exposure to elevated levels can pose serious health risks.

Radon can be found in any home. Knowing your home's level is particularly important if you use your basement or lower level as living space.

Fortunately, testing is inexpensive, and elevated levels can usually be addressed with a mitigation system costing a few thousand dollars.

No need to be afraid. Just be aware. Have your home tested.

Be aware of invasive plants. They can become your worst nightmare.

This is Japanese knotweed. It spreads aggressively, is extremely difficult to remove, and can turn your backyard into a long-term battle.

If you’re buying a home, take a look at what’s growing outside. Some problems aren’t fixed with a Saturday afternoon and a pair of pruning shears.

Other common Massachusetts invasives include Oriental bittersweet, which can climb and choke trees and shrubs, and black swallow-wort, which can spread densely and smother other plants.

When we first met at an open house, they were focused on finding the right condo.

When looking at a home, it's easy to focus on the kitchen, the finishes, or the paint colors.

Don't forget to notice the natural light. The direction a home faces, the time of day, and even what's outside the windows all affect how a room feels, and those things are much harder to change than paint or countertops.
