Just a reminder for all residents to!

Just a reminder that as part of township ordinance, homeowners and occupants are required to remove snow and ice from any sidewalks adjacent to their property after a snowfall. The relevant ordinance requires snow/ice to be removed from sidewalks within 72 hours after the snow has fallen. It is illegal under Michigan law to deposit snow or ice into the street, meaning you can’t shovel or blow snow from your driveway or sidewalk into the roadway.

When a snow emergency is declared (typically when around five inches of snow or more are predicted), on-street parking is prohibited across Canton Township. This makes room for snow-plows and ensures emergency vehicles can get through if needed. Vehicles left on the street during a snow emergency may be ticketed and/or towed.

Also, please remember that some of your neighbors may need help in this area. Please assist those in need when and where you can!

Residents are advised to make note of the Priority Waste collection schedule during the holidays.

There will be no collection on Thursday, December 25. All Thursday and Friday collections will be delayed by one day that week.

There will be no collection on Thursday, January 1. All Thursday and Friday collections will be delayed by one day that week.

Please note, Priority Waste will only offer curbside pick-up of natural Christmas trees from January 2-16. Please place your tree at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on your regular collection day with all stands, lights and ornaments removed. After January 16, trees will no longer be accepted at the curb.

Priority Waste has launched a new Priority Service Portal, where residents can submit requests directly online. You can describe the issue and receive text or email updates as your request is processed.

This new system will replace the internal form previously used on the Township’s website. You can access the new form directly through Priority Waste here:

Canton will hold its annual Hazardous Waste Round-up on Saturday, September 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Canton’s Division of Public Works Building, located at 4847 Sheldon Road, just south of Michigan Avenue.

This free event is open to Canton residents only and ID will be required. To obtain a detailed list of what is and is not accepted, visit www.cantonmi.gov/248. Participants should be prepared for long lines as this is a high-volume event.

In addition to Canton’s event, Wayne County will also hold two more free hazardous waste disposals this year. The schedule is as follows:

• Saturday, August 23 at the Westland Shopping Center located at 35000 Warren Road in Westland.

• Saturday, October 11, at Wayne County Community College District Downriver Campus located at 21000 Northline Road, Taylor.

Residents can also dispose of a limited amount of hazardous waste such as motor oil, home electronics, latex paint, batteries and antifreeze at Canton Clean-up. To view the 2025 clean-up schedule visit www.canton-mi.org/917.

For year-round disposal of hazardous waste, ERG Environmental Services located at 1340 Merriman Road in Livonia offers hazardous waste disposal for a fee of .75 cents per pound with a minimum fee of $20. For more information please call ERG at 734/437-9650 or visit www.ergenvironmental.com.
