This is what happens to your water heater when you don’t flush it out on an annual basis at a minimum as the manufacturer recommends. Only seven years old. This unit is soon for replacement. Also this water heater sits directly on a non porous surface which contributes to corrosion… If you notice this rust on the outside, just think of what the inside looks like… this is from lack of sediment flush out which builds up at the bottom of the unit and no liner under same!!
