So pretty and interesting, but wait, it's ?!!!

It’s World Chocolate Day! To celebrate, we present this exquisite cocoa set, which is now on display at the Florida Historic Capitol Museum as part of “Unseen: Museum Collections Revealed!,” a collaborative exhibit with the Museum of Florida History. Stop by and check it out this weekend.

Made in Austria, this cocoa set was hand-painted and signed by an artist named Girard. The Wheelock Company imported it for sale in Florida. Grand hotels such as the Ponce de Leon of St. Augustine and the Royal Poinciana of Palm Beach filled their gift stores with souvenirs that appealed to their wealthy clientele.

Artistic renderings of Florida symbols like oranges and orange blossoms, alligators, and waterfront scenes were especially popular images for souvenirs. The height of the teapot indicates that it was likely used for cocoa rather than tea.
