25 years ago today, America woke up to a morning that would change our country forever.

On September 11, 2001:

137 innocent passengers and crew members were aboard the two planes that were flown into the World Trade Center.

2,184 people who went to work or were visiting the World Trade Center that morning were killed.

343 FDNY firefighters died running toward buildings that thousands of others were desperately trying to escape.

23 NYPD officers and 37 Port Authority Police officers were killed.

In all, 441 first responders from more than 30 agencies gave their lives that day.

But the death toll of September 11 did not end when the smoke cleared.

In the 25 years since, approximately 9,677 first responders and survivors have died from illnesses associated with their exposure to the toxic conditions created by the attacks and their aftermath. More than 400 FDNY members alone have died from World Trade Center-related illnesses.

And the sacrifice continued far beyond Ground Zero.

More than 7,053 American service members have died in the post-9/11 wars that followed.

These aren't just numbers.

They were husbands and wives.
Mothers and fathers.
Sons and daughters.
Brothers and sisters.
Coworkers and friends.

Some went to work that morning and never came home.

Some boarded an airplane and never reached their destination.

Some ran into burning buildings while everyone else was running out.

Some spent months searching through the rubble and paid for it with their health years later.

And thousands more put on the uniform of our country and never returned home from the wars that followed.

September 11, 2001 was one day.

Its cost has been paid for 25 years.

Today we remember the innocent lives taken, the first responders who ran toward danger, those who became sick because they stayed behind to help, and the men and women of our Armed Forces who answered the call afterward.

Never forget September 11, 2001.

And never forget everyone who continued paying the price long after that day.

Happy Labor Day from our family at Salt Life Villa.

Today, we’re thankful for more than just a long weekend.

Labor Day is a time to recognize the generations of hardworking Americans whose dedication helped build the country and communities we enjoy today.

It’s also a day to be grateful for the freedom that allows us to work, build a life, raise our families, travel, and gather together with the people we love.

That freedom has never come without sacrifice. We are deeply thankful for the men and women of our Armed Forces, our veterans, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice — as well as those who continue to serve and protect our country today.

So whether today is spent around the pool, on the water, at a backyard barbecue, or simply relaxing with family, we hope everyone takes a moment to appreciate just how fortunate we are to enjoy it.
