Hello! Here is important information for those living in single family homes in San Diego County who are thinking of doing anything with their yard/lot you may or may not be aware of:

Contact 811 before you dig – it’s free!!!

Know what's below - call before you dig.
Before you put in a fence, plant trees or shrubs, build a patio or deck, install a mailbox, excavate a new garden area or dig on your property for any reason, call 811 to locate utility-owned underground pipelines.

Excavation, demolition and other forms of digging are a major cause of pipeline damage. It's important to know where they are before you begin any type of digging.

Whether you're planning to build a major development or landscaping your yard, take three steps to protect your safety and the safety of those around you:

Mark out the proposed excavation with white paint or flags.

Contact DigAlert at 811 or digalert.org at least two working days before you dig (not including the day of notification). DigAlert will arrange for buried utility-owned lines to be located and marked. This service is free.

Make sure any contractor you hire contacts DigAlert to have utility-owned lines marked before any digging takes place.

Please be aware that SDG&E does not mark customer-owned gas lines. These typically run from the meter to your gas equipment and/or appliances. You will need to call a qualified professional to mark and maintain your gas lines.

Good afternoon all. Just wanted to share this bit of advice I found to be quite interesting with you:

Is your house in a Trust? If so, contact your insurance agent and confirm if your Trust is an additional insured on your insurance policy. This tip came from LA fire victims having trouble with claims due to their Trust not being included on their policies.

I have spoken with many over the years who believe they have a Trust and all is in order when it is not. Additional steps need to be attended to and many were surprised to find out their Trust Attorney or Planner did not advise them of such steps.

If you do not have a Trust but do have assets, speak with someone about the benefits of having a Trust vs having to deal with Probate.

If you do have a Trust, make sure your assets, home or otherwise IS not just mentioned in the Trust but documents are properly filed/recorded as well to protect those assets.

My heart goes out to all who are impacted by the ongoing fires in Southern California. I have reached out to many just to see how they are, physically and mentally, and various conversations have been heartbreaking. It is not easy to be fully prepared for all of the various life events which take place as we never know exactly when they may occur. There are many recommendations with websites and videos available. One in particular which stands out to me is https://www.ready.gov/ through the Department of Homeland Security. It address a variety of emergencies and provides helpful information in my opinion. I wanted to pass this thought along and hope it is helpful for you, your loved ones, family members and friends.
