Hella has been a stakeholder in Carmel-by-the-Sea since 1995; she got her real estate license in 2006, became a broker in 2009, and opened her real estate office on Dolores in Su Vecino Court in 2013. It was also the year she became a broker in the State of Hawaii, her second home. In 2000, she got involved in the Carmel Art Festival, and has been president of this non profit 501(c)3 since 2019. Not surprisingly, many of her clients are connected with the art world in some fashion.

As an independent broker based in Carmel-by-the-Sea, she is very interested in how her city is managed and promoted dating back to the late 1990's -- her company at that time actually developed the first website for the city of Carmel-by-the-Sea. As the organizer of the annual Carmel Art Festival, she gets to meet many repeat visitors who plan their vacation around this event. She has a lot in common with these out of towners having traveled extensively throughout her life. Plus she is originally from Germany, immigrated to Vancouver, Canada followed by immigrating to the US via Hawaii.
