• Today, we mark . Did you know that Mangroves are among the most misunderstood ecosystems?

The coastal forests are sometimes perceived as wasteland that could be cleared in favor of sandy beaches or other developments.

In reality, mangroves support a rich biodiversity and act as a natural coastal defense against storm surges, tsunamis, rising sea levels and erosion. These extraordinary ecosystems are among the most powerful nature-based solutions to the climate crisis.

Yet, they are increasingly under threat due to coastal development, the impacts of the climate crisis and other human activities. The consequences are catastrophic – worldwide, 1/5 of mangroves have already disappeared.

UNEP and ‌UNESCO are on the frontline of efforts to protect and restore mangroves and humanity.

Our Juno spacecraft captured this view of chaotic clouds and cyclonic storms in the gas giant planet’s northern hemisphere on May 12, 2024.⁣
⁣
Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. Nine spacecraft have visited Jupiter: seven flew by, and two have orbited, including our Juno mission which arrived in 2016. Stormy Jupiter is swept by over a dozen prevailing winds, some reaching up to 335 miles per hour (539 kilometers per hour) at the equator. The Great Red Spot, a swirling oval of clouds twice as wide as Earth, has been observed on the giant planet for more than 300 years!⁣

Citizen scientist Gary Eason made this image using raw data from the spacecraft’s JunoCam instrument, applying digital processing techniques to enhance color and clarity. Visit go.nasa.gov/junocam to learn more about JunoCam and actively participate in the mission.⁣

• Taking care of your skin in summer doesn’t have to be hard! With just a few little tweaks, you can add some sun protection to your morning skincare routine!

Adding vitamin C can help mitigate damage from excess sun exposure.

Most important is SUNSCREEN! Make sure you’re applying sunscreen every day, even if you’re not planning on spending time outside. The harsh summer rays can cause damage through windows while you’re in your home or in the car too. 🚙

We like to warm our sunscreen a bit in our hands before applying to help it spread a little easier! ☀️
