Sharing for everyone affected by the flood...
🚨 Friends & Neighbors: Do you have any flood damage? HERE’S WHAT TO DO RIGHT NOW:
If your home was damaged by the recent flooding and storms—especially if you don’t have flood insurance—please don’t assume there is no help available.
The situation is still developing, and there are important steps you can take now to document your damage and make sure it is reported.
🏠1. REPORT YOUR DAMAGE
This is one of the most important things you can do right now.
Indiana officials are collecting damage information to help determine the full extent of the disaster and what additional assistance may become available.
📞 Indiana 211: 866-211-9966
You can also check Indiana DHS for current damage-reporting information.
📸 2. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU CLEAN UP
Take photos and videos of EVERYTHING, including:
• Water lines and standing water
• Flooring, drywall, ceilings and walls
• Furniture and appliances
• Personal belongings
• Structural damage
• Exterior damage
• Anything else affected by the flooding
Keep receipts for cleanup, repairs and materials.
🛡️ 3. CONTACT YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY
If you have homeowners or flood insurance, report the damage and open a claim—even if you aren't sure what's covered.
If you are uninsured or underinsured, still report your damage and keep your documentation. Indiana has a State Disaster Relief Fund that can provide assistance in certain declared disasters, although eligibility and availability depend on the specific disaster and circumstances.
🏛️ 4. FEMA ASSISTANCE IS STILL DEVELOPING
President Trump has approved a federal Emergency Declaration for Indiana following the severe storms and flooding that began August 11.
At this time, that declaration does not mean that FEMA Individual Assistance for homeowners is automatically available. Additional assessments and declarations may be needed before direct homeowner assistance becomes available.
So please don't wait to document and report your damage.
đź’° 5. CHECK INTO SBA DISASTER ASSISTANCE
The U.S. Small Business Administration may provide low-interest disaster loans to homeowners and renters in eligible disaster areas. These are loans—not grants—and must be repaid, but they can potentially help with repairing or replacing a primary residence and personal property.
If you've been affected by this flooding, I'm sharing this simply to help figure out what to do next as I can't imagine how overwhelming this is!
Report the damage. Take pictures. Keep your receipts. Contact your insurance company. And keep watching for additional state and federal assistance as the damage assessments continue.
Please share this with a neighbor, friend or family member who may need it. ❤️
Resources and eligibility can change as the disaster response develops. Please verify current assistance programs directly with Indiana DHS, Indiana 211, FEMA or SBA.
