On December 7th, 2022, beginning at 11:00 am, the Board of Supervisors will hear and vote on the following options related to public safety; building a new legally compliant jail facility, releasing up to 1,000 felons on programs deemed “alternatives to incarceration” to be legally compliant, or a combination of the two.

As you can conclude, releasing half the jail population and not building a new jail facility can impact public safety dramatically. Your Sheriff’s Department will be there to urge the Board of Supervisors to build a new facility that would include enough bed space to meet the expected population growth of Sacramento County.

Here’s what you can do:

Show up and take a seat to show support (support the presenters supporting a new facility)

Show up and make a brief statement to show your support (no more than 2 minutes and can be as brief as your name and support position)

Call in and make a brief statement to show your support (916-875-2500)

Call your Board of Supervisors before December 7th to urge their vote on building a new facility. District 1 – Phil Serna 916-874-5485, District 2 – Patrick Kennedy 916-874-5481, District 3 – Rich Desmond 916-874-5471, District 4 – Sue Frost 916-874-5491, District 5 – Don Nottoli 916-874-5465

There is expected to be a large contingent that only wants to release felons and not build a new facility. Their voices will definitely be heard if the Board of Supervisors doesn’t hear the support for building a new facility to maintain a level of safety in our communities.

Please consider being involved in the future safety of Sacramento County.
