Ailing McConnell Depends on Staffers who Make More Than Him

Mitch McConnell’s long-awaited return to Congress last week should have quelled the growing rumors about the Kentucky Republican’s health.

It hasn’t.

After a mysterious three-month absence, a visibly frail McConnell returned to work to cast a tie-breaking vote for Republicans’ Agricultural Act of 2026 — a measure that had been delayed due to McConnell’s absence.
