Yesterday, FARE and the Briden family spent the day at the Pennsylvania Capitol championing HB 77, the Briden Bill, which seeks to improve food allergy safety in restaurants by requiring allergen awareness posters for staff and clear labeling in line with the 2022 FDA Food Code. In back-to-back meetings with nearly a dozen lawmakers and a press conference, one question kept coming up: does the bill have stakeholder support? The answer is an unequivocal yes. By bringing restaurant-industry leaders and small-business owners to the table alongside the food allergy community the Bridens and FARE demonstrated that HB 77 is both necessary and practical. That unified front helped steer the measure through the House; next, it must win approval in the Senate, a process we know can take time. The real-world impacts of the legislation are important factors that can determine its ability to advance and we’re so grateful to the Briden family for their hard work engaging with those key stakeholders to make food allergy diners safer.
