The Minnie Cole House...

As National Preservation Month comes to a close, we’re ending our series with one of Cashiers’ most beloved historic landmarks: the Minnie Cole House.

Built circa 1850, the Minnie Cole House stands as one of the oldest surviving homes in the Cashiers Valley and remains a tangible connection to the people, families, and stories that shaped our community. Named for Minnie Cole, daughter of Elizabeth Bryson, the home has witnessed generations of change while retaining its place at the heart of the village.

Elizabeth Bryson purchased 225 acres in Cashiers and later served as Postmaster, helping shape the early development of the community. Her daughter Minnie would follow in her footsteps, serving as Postmaster nearly fifty years later. The house stands across from what is now the protected McKinney Meadow and just steps from another local landmark — the former Evan Pell store, now home to Cornucopia Restaurant.

A designated Cashiers Historical Society Heritage Property, the Minnie Cole House received the Village Heritage Award in 2022 for its thoughtful restoration and adaptive reuse. Its preservation reflects the enduring character, craftsmanship, and sense of place that make Cashiers so special.

Because preservation isn’t just about saving buildings... it’s about carrying history forward.
