What a cutie!!!
💥UPDATE💥 Thank you for your overwhelming support for our beloved Goofy! We have an approved adopter! 💖 She has experience with the breed and in fact has a Bloodhound currently at home. This was the first approved application we received and many, many more have come in since.
❤ Thank you everyone for your interest, likes and shares on behalf of this amazing dog! We’ll post an adoption/forever home picture of Goofy next week but in the meantime, we are currently preparing our shelter and animals for the incoming winter storm (again). 🥶 Please stay safe and warm this weekend and please bring your pets indoors.

👉 We get a lot of hound dogs at the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society. It’s just the nature of where we are located in these beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. We rescue plenty of Plott Hounds ☑️☑️☑️☑️ (the official state dog of North Carolina), a fair amount of Coonhounds like Blueticks, Black and Tans, Redbones and Treeing Walkers ☑️☑️☑️ and also the occasional Foxhound and Beagle. ☑️☑️
But we don’t see Bloodhounds at our shelter very often. In fact, hardly at all. Our resident experts 🧐 Shelter Manager Kaitlyn Villarreal and Assistant Shelter Manager Jodi Henkel were asked: “Of the thousands of animals we have rescued in the past decade, how many of those were Bloodhounds?”
The answer from both of them was the same. Definitely less than five. 😲
👉 Ten years, thousands of animals, and we have seen less than five Bloodhounds pass through our doors. 😮
📣 So please forgive us if we get a little giddy with excitement when a Bloodhound arrives. Of course, our first hope is to reunite this majestic breed with their owner, and that was the case with most of those “less than five”.
But not this time. This handsome dog was found as a stray in Cullowhee in mid-December with no ID tag and no microchip, no one has claimed him, and he doesn’t match any of the lost dog reports we have received. 😔
While in our compassionate care, we have learned just how sweet and loving this dog is. 💖 He’s housetrained and he’s only about one year old. He’s got a bit of an endearing clumsiness about him, and he’s even been known to trip over his own feet. So we named him Goofy. 😍
