Our first podcast! We had a lot of fun and very much appreciate the opportunity to tell our story, full of wrong turns and mistakes, but learning from it all and having fun doing it!

From veterinarian and carpenter on a hobby farm in Canada to selling it all and moving to a Central American Country we never visited before.

Then starting businesses in Nicaragua as complete beginners (yes, that is as hard as it sounds :) ), and moving up to getting rejected by Stripe and PayPal because we used a virtual address with our Wyoming LLC to start an online store in the US.

Then, because when life is hard, Dave and I have to up the ante and ask ourselves, how do we make this harder? LOL

We decide to go to the US and start a business no one has tried before, in an industry full of government and banking regulations and compliance challenges.

Wait, we needed to make it harder still.

We are also applying for an E2 Visa ( as Canadian investors wanting to come and run a business in the US) so we add on hours of making sure all our ducks are in a row for the application.

And just when we thought it couldn't get any harder, we needed to leave the US as soon as the business opened and we started taking clients. We wait for our interview and manage this huge venture from Canada.

Wouldn't trade it for the world!

Mercury just got conditional approval to become an actual bank. Not a fintech partnered with a bank behind the scenes. An actual, federally chartered bank, with its own charter from the OCC.

Did you know the federal government just launched a brand new registration system for the trucking industry? It is called Motus and it is run by the FMCSA, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The agency that oversees every commercial truck on American roads.

Here is what changed. Motus now verifies two things it never checked before:

1. Who you are. Every user must verify their identity using a government-issued ID and a facial scan.

2. Where your business actually is. A separate verification company confirms your PPOB (Principal Place of Business) before you can access your trucking registration.

If you run a motor carrier- any trucking operation, even one or two trucks, the following addresses will not pass that verification:

•A P.O. box
•A virtual office
•A mail forwarding service
•A registered agent address — the kind most people use when setting up an LLC

If any of those sound familiar, you may have a compliance problem worth looking into.

If you're a 1099 contractor, run a motor carrier business, or work as a government contractor, you already know you don't operate out of just one or two states. You're everywhere your work takes you.
So which state should your LLC call home? For a lot of businesses in this situation, it ends up being wherever offers the most sense for cost, privacy, and business law, not necessarily where the work happens. What does your banker see when they visit your "virtual office"?
Nothing. Because there's nothing to see.
When we opened MicroOffice Solutions, the bank manager from BMO's Casper branch walked through our business center in person. He toured the individual micro-offices, the conference space, the community workspaces. Saw a real lease, a real address, a real place of business.
He left excited. Excited about what we'd built, and excited to welcome qualifying MOS clients for business banking.
