Happy 100th Birthday to "The Castle"!! One of my favorite landmarks! Always fun to look for it when driving Santa Fe

This remarkable vintage photograph from the 1920s captures what was then known as Charlford Castle, with classic automobiles parked proudly in front, a true snapshot of another era.

Designed by Denver architect Burnham F. Hoyt, who also designed the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the castle was completed in 1926, modeled after a 15th-century Scottish castle.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of its completion, a century of history on this breathtaking stretch of Colorado landscape.

Originally named Charlford, the property was purchased in 1954 by Mildred Montague Genevieve “Tweet” Kimball, who renamed it Cherokee Ranch & Castle. Through her vision, Cherokee became not only a working cattle ranch, but also a cultural and historic treasure that continues to inspire visitors today.

A hundred years later, the castle still stands as a testament to craftsmanship, vision, and the enduring spirit of the West.
