Commuting to both Baltimore + D.C.? 🚗🚆 It’s common to have more than one person in a household that works in these cities or close by — or you may have to split between locations.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
The best location really depends on your work schedule, how often you commute, your preferred mode of transportation, and the lifestyle you want outside of work.

You can absolutely choose to live closer to one city and make the occasional commute to the other. Or, if the MARC Train works for your schedule and destination, that can open up some additional options.

That’s why I’d start my search with these Central Maryland areas:

📍 Laurel
📍 Columbia
📍 Elkridge
📍 Hanover
📍 Odenton

Each offers a different balance of commute, housing, amenities and lifestyle.

The goal isn’t to find the exact middle. It’s to find the middle ground that works for YOU.

Save this if you’re trying to figure out where to live between Baltimore and D.C. 👇

Looking for a detached home with plenty of space in the most convenient location?

📍That’s what you will get in Hanover, MD.

This 4-bedroom detached home gives you something you often have to balance: space + location.

🌳 Located in a newer yet established neighborhood
✈️ Minutes from BWI, MARC train and bus stops
🛍️ Near Arundel Mills, shopping, dining & entertainment
🏙️ Convenient to both Baltimore and DC
🚗 Near major routes— making it easy to get around Central Maryland

What I like about this neighborhood is that you get the convenience of Hanover without feeling like you’re living in the middle of all the commercial development. You’re close to everything without sacrificing that residential feel.

The best fall things to do in Maryland are almost back 🍂

Slower mornings, football on in the background, the first seasonal drink, and convincing yourself it’s sweater weather the second the temperature drops below 75.

I’m already planning where to get coffee, which local events can’t be missed, and every excuse to spend a slow afternoon around town.

Many people think of Maryland as Baltimore, D.C., and four real seasons.

And yes—we have major job hubs, easy weekend access, and plenty of housing options.

But what people don’t always realize until they live here is how many different lifestyles can exist within the same state.

You can live in or near:
🌊 The beach or bay for waterfront views
☕ A historic town where you can walk to coffee shops
🌾 Rural or farmland for a little more peace and quiet
🏙️ A major city—or close enough to one for convenience

…and sometimes, those completely different lifestyles are only 15 minutes apart.

That’s what makes relocating to Maryland harder than people expect.

You’re not just deciding which county has the nicest houses.

You’re deciding how much driving you’re willing to do, what you want your weekends to look like, how close you need to be to work, and what you actually want to see when you step outside your front door.

The people who get Maryland right usually figure that part out before they start falling in love with listings.

You’re not just choosing a house.
You’re choosing how you want to live.

Comment or DM me and I’ll be happy to send you over listings that actually meet your lifestyles.

🏖️ National Beach Day is August 30 — skip the Bay Bridge traffic!
Maryland has some seriously underrated spots less than 2 hours away — here are 6 to add to your list 👇

🌊 Greenbrier State Park (Boonsboro) — A clean, white-sand beach on a spring-fed lake.

🌊 Cunningham Falls State Park (Thurmont) — Swim at Hunting Creek Lake, then hike to Maryland’s tallest cascading waterfall while you’re there.

🌊 Downs Park (Pasadena) — Chesapeake Bay views with a fishing pier, playground, and miles of walking trails. Great for a full day out, not just a swim.

🌊 Fort Smallwood Park (Pasadena) — Where the Patapsco River meets the Bay. Shallow, sandy beach plus a historic fort, fishing pier, and playground — even a dog beach.

🌊 Miami Beach Park (Middle River) — A sandy Chesapeake cove with a swim area and kayak/paddleboard rentals.

🌊 Rocky Point Park & Beach (Essex) — 300 feet of sandy beach at the mouth of the Back and Middle Rivers, with sweeping views toward Hart-Miller Island.

📌 Pro tip: hours, lifeguard schedules, and closures can change — check each park’s website before you head out!

📍 All within a 2-hour drive of the DMV — no bridge, no backup, just sand and water. Which one are you hitting first? 👇
