The original K**b City Land Company founded Cave City, Ky. The officers and principles of that company were four of Bowling Green's most industrious and prominent citizens: Thomas Quigley, John T. Graham, George Bradley Adams, and A.G. Hobson. They had joined together to secure Bowling Green's place on the L&N railroad route and fresh off that success, they looked to acquire land to build a new town. They formed the K**b City Land Company and were incorporated by an act of the Kentucky legislature in 1854, just after they had purchased 320 acres from Barren County farmer, Thomas Duke. They planned a town that would provide train travelers an origin point for excursions to the famous Mammoth Cave. With the completion of the L&N railroad in 1859, the K**b City Land Company began selling lots and Cave City was born.

The site that will house the new multi-use property "The National" has a history dated back to 1916. In that year, the prominent merchant family of Cave City, the Curds, built the large and impressive Curd Department Store on the corner of 2nd and Kirtley (now known as Broadway). The store had a wide ranging customer base and was extremely prosperous until 1937, at which time, owner and operator Dan S. Curd died. His family then sold the store to a chain of regional departments stores known as The National Stores. The principal owner of that chain, based in Tennessee, was Guy Comer, a wealthy entrepreneur that also owned the Washington Manufacturing Company, makers of denim apparel. The store served Cave City's needs for almost forty years. The most recent occupation of the building was Magaline's Antiques, which was a fixture on Broadway until its recent purchase by the new K**b City Land Company.
