Sometimes the hardest part of the journey comes right before you reach the place you’ve been working toward.

When things get difficult, plans fall apart, doors close, or progress feels painfully slow, our first instinct is often to wonder if we’re on the wrong path.

But difficulty doesn’t always mean you’re going the wrong way.

Sometimes it means you’re being tested. Sometimes you’re being prepared. And sometimes the obstacle in front of you is simply the price of getting to the other side.

Last week, I talked about how there are no failures, only lessons. This is the next part of that mindset:

Don’t let a difficult season convince you to quit on a worthwhile destination.

Nothing meaningful comes without resistance. Growth is uncomfortable. Progress can be frustrating. And breakthroughs rarely announce themselves before they happen.

So when it gets dark, when it gets heavy, when you start questioning whether all the work is worth it, keep going.

Your circumstances may be telling you to stop.

Your mindset has to tell you otherwise.

The breakthrough you’re looking for may be on the other side of the moment you’re thinking about giving up.

Success isn’t just about the moments when everything goes right. It’s also about the setbacks, the mistakes, the missed opportunities, and the moments that challenge you to think differently.

Failure doesn’t mean you’ve lost. It gives you an opportunity to learn, adjust, and come back better. What matters most is how you choose to view those moments and what you take away from them.

Take the lesson. Make the adjustment. Keep growing. Keep moving forward.

Because sometimes the biggest lessons come from the moments that didn’t go as planned.

AI is getting harder to hide.

As AI-generated content becomes more sophisticated, the conversation is shifting from “Can you tell if AI wrote this?” to “What if you don’t have to?”

AI isn’t going away. And honestly, it shouldn’t.

The real advantage comes from knowing how to use these tools without letting them replace your judgment, creativity, or accountability.

Use the tool. Understand the tool. Keep your judgment.

The smartest move isn’t hiding that you used the tool.
It’s knowing when and how to use it.

Put down the hammer.

Pick up the drill.

Here is the story, in case you have never heard it.

In the 1870s, men cut railroad tunnels by hand. All day, swinging hammers into rock so it could be packed with blasting powder.

John Henry was one of them. A salesman showed up with a steam powered drill and said no man could beat it.

John Henry raced it. He won. Then he laid down his hammer and died.

We tell it like a win.

The history is harder. He was a laborer leased to the railroad from a prison. The tunnel dust killed men young. He did not die from the race. He died from the job.

And he never had the option to run that drill. Someone else owned it.

We do have that option.

AI is here. It is in the tools you already pay for. The question is not whether to accept it. The question is what you do with it.

Raise the hammer and you lose. Nothing with no body gets tired.

Take the drill and you get hours back. First drafts. Paperwork. Cleanup. The busy work that eats your evenings.

Just name what those hours are for before they show up. Unclaimed time gets taken.

Put down the hammer. Pick up the drill. Then go home at a decent hour.
